The purpose of the Arthritis Society&#x27;s occupational therapy is to help people maintain and improve their mobility, thereby enhancing their quality of life.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Occupational therapist Gu\u00f0bj\u00f6rg Gu\u00f0mundsd\u00f3ttir has over 20 years&#x27; experience as an occupational therapist in various fields, such as with the elderly, people with disabilities, and individuals with mental health issues, has been a part-time lecturer at the University of Akureyri and, most recently, a project manager in the social services of Borgarbygg\u00f0. She worked for the Rheumatism Association of Iceland from 2006 to 2015.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image aligncenter size-full is-resized\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"224\" height=\"264\" src=\"https:\/\/www.gigt.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Picture1.png\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-2355\" style=\"width:796px;height:auto\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.gigt.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Picture1.png 224w, https:\/\/www.gigt.is\/wp-content\/uploads\/2025\/05\/Picture1-10x12.png 10w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 224px) 100vw, 224px\" \/><figcaption class=\"wp-element-caption\"><strong>Gu\u00f0bj\u00f6rg Gu\u00f0mundsd\u00f3ttir<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Gu\u00f0bj\u00f6rg graduated as a BSc Occupational Therapist from the University of Akureyri in 2003 and completed a Master&#x27;s degree in Health Sciences with a focus on rehabilitation from the University of Akureyri in 2023. Gu\u00f0bj\u00f6rg will join the Arthritis Society in August 2025 and will be the Manager of Occupational Therapy at the Arthritis Society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Svava Arnarsd\u00f3ttir graduated as an occupational therapist from the University of Akureyri in 2016 and completed a master&#x27;s degree in disability studies from the University of Iceland in 2024. She has specialised in work related to mental health, empowerment and the disability rights movement. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Svava is also the chairperson of Mental Health Aid, has lectured at HA and previously worked for Janus Rehabilitation and Hugarafl. Svava looks forward to contributing her experience to the Arthritis Society, for example regarding life with chronic pain and the interplay between body and mind in modern society.
